Mastodons Stay Home and Host Valparaiso and Detroit Mercy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team hosts two games at home on September 13 and September 15. First up, the Mastodons will play against the Valparaiso Crusaders on September 13 at 7 p.m. at Party at the Pitch. On Sunday, September 15, the Mastodons will also face off against the Detroit Mercy Titans at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Mastodons (2-1-2, 0-0-0 Summit League)
Purdue Fort Wayne is coming into the match after yet another shutout. The Mastodons faced off against the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Sunday, September 8 and brought home a 1-0 win. Breanna Buche was responsible for the single goal of the game at the 77th minute. Buche scored a header off of an indirect free kick from Hannah Kroger. Lorah Pund kept the Panthers from scoring and recorded her second shutout of the season. Currently the 'Dons are unbeaten in their last four matches.
Scouting the Crusaders (0-5-1, 0-0-0 Missouri Valley Conference)
The Valparaiso Crusaders travel to Fort Wayne after losing to the Canisius Golden Griffins in double overtime on Sunday, September 8. Goalkeeper Georgia Henkel held off the Golden Griffins for 90 minutes, but couldn't maintain the momentum and Canisius midfielder Luca Fahmer scored with 36 seconds left on the clock in the second overtime. The Crusaders also played a matchup against St. Bonaventure on Friday, September 6, but fell 1-0.
Scouting the Titans (1-3-1, 0-0-0 Horizon League)
Detroit Mercy comes to the Hefner Soccer Complex after losing 3-0 against Michigan State on Sunday, September 8. Before that, the Titans took on the Madonna Crusaders on September 4 and went home with their first win of the season 1-0. Forward Julie Ann Piechocki scored the only goal from a penalty kick at the 51st minute.
What Happened Last Time with the Crusaders?
The last time the 'Dons met with the Crusaders, the 'Dons came out with the win 2-1. Kailyn Wade kicked off the game with a goal 1:23 into the matchup. Valparaiso came back at the 14th minute with a penalty kick goal by Cory Griffith. The Mastodons were not finished and Kendall Quinn beat Valparaiso's goalkeeper one on one and scored the winning goal.
It's Not Over with the Titans
In 2018, Purdue Fort Wayne met up with Detroit Mercy for a face off that ended with a tie in double overtime. In the first half of regulation time, Detroit Mercy's Julie Ann Piechocki scored a header goal at the 26th minute. The Mastodons came back in the second half with a goal by Kendall Quinn at the 43rd minute. After double overtime, the 'Dons and Titans left the field tied 1-1.

With five games so far in the season, goalkeeper Lorah Pund has already collected two shutouts. Pund's first shutout was against the Chicago State Cougars in Chicago. Pund helped the 'Dons walk away with a 1-0 win. Most recently, she kept the Eastern Illinois Panthers scoreless and the Mastodons also won 1-0.
Wisniewski in the Books
Kayla Wisniewski had a successful season in 2018. In her first year as a Mastodon, Wisniewski made it into the record books for five separate categories. She is currently tied for seventh with three game-winning goals in a career and in a single-season. She is also tied for sixth with 1.00 points per game and fifth with eight goals. Wisniewski also ranks seventh overall with an average of 0.42 goals per game and fifth overall with 19 points earned in a single-season.
Party at the Pitch
The women's soccer team will host Valparaiso at 7 p.m. on September 13 at the Hefner Soccer Complex. The men's team will face off against Belmont at 5 p.m. before the women's game. Starting at 4:30 p.m., there will be free food for students and food trucks for spectators and admission is free. The 1999 women's team will be honored during the women's contest. The 1999 squad was the first team in the history of the program.

Purdue Fort Wayne will head to Muncie, Indiana for a matchup against the Ball State Cardinals on Friday, September 20 at 5 p.m.
