FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team dropped a non-league game to the Northern Illinois Huskies on Friday (Sept. 20) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex 3-1.
The Mastodons opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Alex Frank scored his second goal of the week and third of the season. It came off a free kick delivered by Emil Fosse. Frank and Fosse teamed up for Purdue Fort Wayne's goal against Green Bay on Tuesday.
NIU responded just over 10 minutes later. Christian Molina scored on a goal, assisted by Adrian Corona. The Huskies added two second half goals to make the final 3-1.
The Mastodons nearly made it a one-goal game down the stretch when a scrum off a corner kick ended with Dominik Hils delivering a shot that clanked off the crossbar.
Tor Erik Larsen made nine saves for the Mastodons.
The Huskies improve to 2-4-1 with the win. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 3-4-0. The 'Dons are back in action on Tuesday at Wright State. It will be a non-league game with the Raiders. Next year it will be a league contest between the Mastodons and Raiders.
