'Dons End Day One With Two School Records

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Mastodons ended day one of the YSU National Mid-Major on Friday (Jan. 31) with two school records and four top ten finishes. Three out of the four were in the 500m run.
Weston Miser led the way for the 'Dons in the 500m run in third place with a time of 69.19, breaking the school record. Nick Derickson was right behind Miser in fourth place and clocked in with 69.38. Conner Bayne rounded out for Purdue Fort Wayne in the 500m run with a time of 72.50 and was in 10th place.
Freshman Husam Saleh competed in the 1000m run and finished in fourth (2:33.42), passing the previous school record by a full 11 seconds. In the 5000m run, Michael Oliver finished in 14th (15:36.02), Andrew Whitinger was in 17th (15:46.56), Alex Barton ended in 21st place (15:59.29), Karter Tow was in 26th (16:12.41) and Austin Rockstroh concluded for the 'Dons in 40th (17:13.39).
Luke Beehler jumped his way to a 10th place finish and a mark of 6.62m in the long jump and Daniel Tyler had a personal best mark of 6.56m and placed 12th. Bradon Gulch had a personal best mark of 13.29m in the weight throw and ended the event in 27th place.
The 'Dons will continue at the YSU National Mid-Major on Saturday (Feb. 1). Events will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET with the men's heptathlon.
