2008 - Women's Track and Field DMR breaks school record
Each week Winning Wednesday we take a look back at some memorable wins for the 'Dons.
February 13, 2006 - Women's Track and Field - Mastodons Demolish DMR School Record at EMU Classic
Ypsilanti, MI - Women's Track and Field had another IPFW record setting meet at the Eastern Michigan Classic this past weekend. In total, the team broke seven IPFW records and several athletes recorded personal bests.
The record breaking meet broke open for IPFW with a first place finish in the Distance Medley Relay of Crystal Martinez (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler), Angie Suel (Fort Wayne, IN/Harding),
Valerie Hardesty (Waterloo, IN/Dekalb), and Crystina Martinez (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler). The team finished with a time of 12:34.67, shattering the 2004 record by more than 25 seconds.
IPFW later earned another first place finish from Junior Ashley Ritchey (Leo, IN/Leo) in the 5000m run, finishing in a time 18:31.20.
Crystina Martinez was able to carry her success in the DMR to the 1 Mile Run, placing 3rd overall with a school record breaking time of 5:15.05. Also breaking school records were Loree Grimm (Fort Wayne, IN/Carroll) in the Shot Put; Brooke Newman (LaGrange, IN/Prairie Heights) in the Triple Jump; and Suel in the 400m Run, Long Jump, and High Jump.
"It was a great day for our program," stated Coach Fruchey. "The DMR really started a wave of momentum for our kids. After that, records were falling and personal bests were happening the rest of the day.
IPFW will travel to West Lafayette, IN to compete in the Boilermaker Invitational, their final indoor meet of the season.
