KNOW YOUR FOE
• The Norse lead the all-time series 24-12. The series dates back to 1981 but the two teams became conference foes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in NCAA Division II starting in 1986. The last time they met was in February 2001, the Mastodons' final season in NCAA Division II.
• The Norse split Horizon League games with Youngstown State and own wins over Ball State, and Tennessee Tech this season.
• Trevon Faulkner is averaging a team-best 16.9 points per a game
• The Norse are 3-1 at home this season.
• The Norse are the reigning Horizon League Champions.
'DONS AND ENDS:
• The Mastodons are shooting 51.2 percent on the season, 17th best in the nation.
• The Mastodons are shooting 40.2 percent from three, 20th best in the nation.
• The Mastodons' 9.0 3-pointers per game rank 60th in the nation.
• The Mastodons scored a season-high 51 points for a half in the second half against Robert Morris (Dec. 27).
• The Mastodons shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from three vs. Robert Morris (Dec. 27). The last time the 'Dons shot 60 percent from three with a minimum of 10 attempts was a 66.7 percent (12-of-18) performance vs. Denver on Feb. 13, 2016.
• The Mastodons shot 64.2 percent (34-of-53) from the floor against Robert Morris (Dec 27). The last time the 'Dons shot that well in a game was 72.2 percent (52-of-72) against Purdue North Central on Jan. 2, 2016. The last time the 'Dons shot that well against a Division I opponent, was a 64.8 percent (35-fo-54) performance at IUPUI on Feb. 22, 2014.
• Jalon Pipkins finished with eight assists against Robert Morris (Dec. 27). His previous career high was three in a game, something he did twice prior to playing for the 'Dons.
• Newcomer Demetric Horton has seen significant time for the 'Dons off the bench. He has played 20 more minutes in four games this season. He has finished in double-digits in four games for an average of 11.0 points per game this year.
• Bobby Planutis is averaging in double-digits with 11.8 points per contest. He is shooting 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from three but has proven to be more than just a spot up shooter. The Pennsylvania native has made 15-of-17 from the free throw line with his 17 attempts being the second most on the team from the line this season.
• Dylan Carl has made 16-of-17 (94.1 percent) from the floor this season. He scored 12 points in both Robert Morris games while combining for seven assists in the two contests. All 17 attempts from Carl this season have come in the paint.
• After playing 2019-20 NEC Champions Robert Morris last week, the 'Dons now face the reigning Horizon League Champs in Northern Kentucky this week. Thanks to Robert Morris joining the Horizon League this season it gives the 'Dons the rare occurrence of playing reigning league champions in back-to-back games.
THE 'DONS WENT TO JARRED:
• Jarred Godfrey finished with a line of 27 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals against Robert Morris (Dec. 27). Per sports-reference.com, he is one of only 10 players since the 2010-11 season to record such a line in a game. The list includes Ben Simmons and Kemba Walker. He is the only player on the list to do so while taking fewer than 14 shots from the floor. Godfrey finished 9-of-11.
• Sports-reference.com produces game scores for individual performances, with 10 being average and 40 being outstanding. Godfrey's 31.0 is Purdue Fort Wayne's fifth best ever recorded by the site. Only nine above 30 have been recorded by a Mastodon since 2010-11. For context, last season only one performance in Horizon League play earned a game score of 31.0 or better. That was Jalen Tate of Northern Kentucky's 34.1 game score against IUPUI on Feb. 14, 2020.
• Jarred Godfrey has scored 20 points in all four Horizon League games. He is the only player in the league to hit the 20-point mark in every league game this year. The last Mastodon to score 20 plus points in four straight games is John Konchar who scored 29, 29, 27 and 27 from Feb. 14-28, 2019. Konchar never scored 20 or more in five straight games. The last Mastodon to hit five straight games of 20 plus was Max Landis who scored 30, 22, 20, 24, 23 and 24 in six straight games from Feb. 13-March 5, 2016.
• Jarred Godfrey has made 21-of-23 free throws on the season for a 91.3 percent mark. He entered the season shooting 69.6 percent from the line in his career.
• Jarred Godfrey's 93 points through the Mastodons' first five games is the fifth most by a Mastodon over the first five games of a season. What makes that stat impressive, however, is Godfrey finished with no points in the first game of the season in limited minutes due to an injury. Before you ask, yes Godfrey's 93 points are the most by a Mastodon in games 2-5 of a season.
MORE BLOCKS THAN A TWITTER TROLL: Dylan Carl owns 93 career blocks, fourth best in program history. He is one block away from moving into the top five in program history. Fifth place Sean Gibson (1989-93) had 94 blocks. In fourth place is Brent Calhoun (2012-17) with 109. Carl and Calhoun were teammates in 2016-17.
I KNOW YOU!: After playing Robert Morris, the 'Dons now have a previous meeting with Horizon League school except for Green Bay.
PIP: Jalon Pipkins is averaging 9.6 points including 18 points in the opener against Southeastern Louisiana. He had the game-winning basket against Southeastern Louisiana with an old school three-point play that put the 'Dons up 65-63 with 12 seconds left in overtime. The guard came to Purdue Fort Wayne after playing 23 games at CSUN to start his career in 2017-18. He transferred to Paris Junior College in 2018-19 where he averaged 21.5 points per game. Last season at Loyola Chicago he played in 30 games with one start while averaging 3.4 points per game.
