Mastodons End Day One With Five School Records

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field team ended day one of the GVSU Big Meet with five school records at the Kelly Family Sports Center on Friday (Feb. 14).
Andrew Whitinger led the way for the Mastodons with a school record in the 5000m run and a time of 15.19.23. He was the only Mastodon to claim first place in his heat. Ben Marano broke his own record in the 400m dash and clocked in a time of 49.48 with a 29th place finish. Luke Beehler jumped his way into the record books again by breaking his record in the long jump with a mark of 6.74m and earned fourth place. Braxton Trittipo came in 22nd place and had a time of 22.35 in the 200m dash, .2 seconds faster than his previous record.
Also setting a school record was Weston Miser in the 600m run. He ran a time of 1:23.60, four seconds faster than the previous record, and earned a sixth place finish. Husam Saleh competed in the 600m as well and ended the race with a time of 1:24.63 and finished in 11th place. Robert Peck (24th, 1:27.34), Conner Bayne (31st 1:28.50) and Robert McPherson (41st, 1:35.27) rounded out for the Mastodons in the 600m run.
Gabe Garcia competed in the 60m hurdles and ended the day in 36th (8.86).
Lane Hawkins finished in the top 10 for the high jump and finished with a mark of 1.90m and was in seventh place.
The 'Dons will continue at the GVSU Big Meet on Saturday (Feb. 15). Competition will begin at 10 a.m. ET with the field events.
