O'Connell Breaks 60m Hurdles School Record on Final Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - On the final day of competition at the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships Presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team broke a school record and finished seventh overall at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on Saturday (Feb. 29). North Dakota State won the championship with 213.5 points.
Lexi O'Connell broke the school record in the 60m hurdles for the second day in a row with a time of 8.74 for fifth place. Ally Bailey competed in the 200m finals and 400m finals. Bailey finished in fifth place for the 400m with a time of 57.70 and in sixth place for the 200m with a time of 25.57.
In the mile run, Kenzie Smith was in 17th place with a personal best time of 5:35.41. Kathy Potter was in the 5000m run and finished with a time of 18:11.36 and was 12th overall.
Naimah Slaughter jumped her way into ninth place for the high jump with a mark of 1.60m. Miranda Haney was in 10th place with the same mark, 1.60m.
Rachel Pierre-Louis, Savannah Girolami, Katie Clark and Bailey ended the 4x400m relay final in sixth place with a time of 3:58.90.
The Mastodons will take a three-week break before the outdoor track and field season begins on Friday (March 13) at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, S.C. Events will begin at 10 a.m. ET.
