Three 'Dons Card 77's on Final Day of Orlando Invitational

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Three Mastodons carded 77's in the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team's final round at the Orlando Invitational on Tuesday (March 10), pushing the team to a ninth-place finish for the tournament.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne notched a 320-317-311-948, finishing ahead of Bethune-Cookman (954) and Creighton (961). Horizon League member Wright State won the invitational with a 309-292-295-896 (+32), while Youngstown State's Ken Keller and Wright State's Tyler Goecke tied for the individual medalist honors with 221.
Eric Brinker, Jacob Deakyne and Burke Pitz all brought 77's to the clubhouse in round three. Brinker finished the tournament in a tie for 35th place with a 80-79-77-236. He tied teammate Kasey Lilly, who carded 79-77-80-236. Brinker had five birdies in his final round, with three on the back nine and two consecutive on the front. Lilly had 10 pars en route to his 80.
Deakyne had three birdies and nine pars for his 77, rounding out his week with 81-82-77-240 for 41st place. Pitz had birdies on holes one, five and 14 with 10 pars, marking his low-round of the week. His 80-85-77-242 was good for a tie for 45th place.
Callahan Elzey rounded out those competing for the team score as he finished in a tie for 54th with 85-79-82-246. He had 10 pars, including eight straight on the back nine.
Parker Deakyne had two birdies in his final round to finish at 86-80-85-251 for 61st place. Cody White birdied three holes on the back nine to finish in 67th with 83-90-83-256. Jake Kennedy birdied 10 and finished in 68th win scores of 96-93-87-276.
The Mastodons have a quick turnaround, as they will compete in the Gary Freeman Invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman on Thursday (March 12).
