Kasey Lilly Leads Purdue Fort Wayne at Orlando Invitational

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf freshman Kasey Lilly led the team on the opening day of the Orlando Invitational on Monday (March 9). The 'Dons are in 10th through 36 holes.
Lilly shot a 79-77-156 which put him in a tie for 23rd place for the day. His opening round of 79 saw him birdie four holes: nine, 10, 15 and 16. He also rattled off four pars in a row on the front. In his second round, he birdied hole seven, and 13, 14 and 15 consecutively. Eric Brinker brought in an 80-79-159 for 33rd place, second among Mastodons. He birdied holes one and 12 on his first time around, and nine and 13 on round two.
Jacob Deakyne carded an 81-82-163, which put him in a tie for 47th. He holed out with birdies on nine and 11 in the first round, then started his second round with one on 10. He also birdied seven and 15.
Behind Deakyne was Callahan Elzey, as he finished with an 85-79-164 for 52nd place. He had back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 in the opening round for a 1-over 38 on he back nine. He also birdied holes six and 14 in his second round. Burke Pitz rounded out those playing for the team score, as he carded 80-85-165 to finish in 52nd. Pitz birdied 10 in his first round and 14 in his second.
Playing as individuals, Parker Deakyne turned in 86-80-166, Cody White chipped in an 83-90-173, and Jake Kennedy carded a 96-93-189. They finished in T58th, 67th, and 69th , respectively.
The Mastodons recorded 23 birdies on the day, which was the second-most in the field.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished with a 637 as a team. Wright State is leading the field with a 601 (+25), while Ken Keller had the best individual score through two rounds with 72-74-146 (+2). The Mastodons will return to the course tomorrow (March 10) for the final round of the Orlando Invitational.
