As Purdue Fort Wayne prepares for its first year in the Horizon League, we wanted to give the fans a quick briefing of each sport in which the Mastodons will be competing for a League championship. Today, baseball.
Who: Seven Horizon League schools sponsor baseball: Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, UIC, Wright State, Youngstown State.

How Is a Champion Determined?: While the 2021 championship format has yet to be announced, and there was no tournament held in the 2020, the format was determined. The top six finishers in the regular season qualified. The top two teams would receive byes to the quarterfinals, while the Nos. 3-6 would face off in two "stay-or-go-home" games. Then the four remaining teams would play in a double-elimination bracket. All games were set to be hosted by the No. 1 seed.
One Memorable Mastodon Doubleheader: In 2011, the Mastodons played Milwaukee at home, which saw Kurt Dudley drive in two two runs in the opening game and then steal home in the second. The 'Dons won the first game 5-4, and the second was suspended due to darkness after the two clubs were tied at one through 10 innings.
Know Your Foes: The 'Dons have played all six teams in the Horizon League at least four times, but the most recent game came in 2014 against UIC.
One Random Note: There have been 168 Horizon League student-athletes drafted by MLB teams. There were seven selections in 2019.
And Now For Something Completely Different: The Horizon League selects a Relief Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year, both of which the Summit League does not recognize.
