Normally for Winning Wednesday we take a look back at some memorable wins for the 'Dons, but for 12 weeks we'll be featuring the best of the best in Mastodon history. Each week, we'll highlight a class of the Mastodon Hall of Fame.
2011 Hall of Fame Class
Chris Gisslen - Men's Volleyball - Led the Mastodon men's volleyball team to the 1999 MIVA Championship and NCAA tournament semifinal ... Three-time All-MIVA selection ... MIVA Freshman of the Year in 1997 ... Second in program history in assists with over 6,000 ... First in history in assists per set with 16.39 ... Represented the United States as a member of the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, China, and earned a gold medal ... Member of the U.S. Men's National Team from 2001-03.
Shacina Hersey - Women's Soccer - First women's soccer player inducted into the Mastodon Hall of Fame ... Second in program history in points in a season with 22 in 2003 ... Holds the single-match points record with seven points against Trine in 2001 ... Third in program history in career points with 52 and assists with 10 ... Led the Mastodons to their first winning season (9-7-3) in 2003.
Dan Mathews - Baseball - Averaged a strikeout per inning in 131.1 innings pitched ... Threw the first no-hitter in program history in a 2-0 win over Butler on April 14, 1998 ... First Team All-GLVC in 1998 ... Became the first Mastodon selected in the Major League Baseball Draft in the 28th round by the Milwaukee Brewers ... Played four seasons of professional baseball.
Dottie Porch - Women's Volleyball, Women's Basketball - AVCA DII All-American in 1997 ... GLVC Player of the Year in 1997 .... All-GLVC First Team selection three times ... Led the Mastodons to two GLVC volleyball championships ... Played four years of professional volleyball in Europe ... Coached at a variety of Division I institutions and is now the head coach at UNCW.
