Mastodons On Wrong End of 2-0 Match Against Detroit Mercy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne fell 2-0 to Detroit Mercy on Wednesday (Oct. 13) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex in a Horizon League men's soccer match.
While the Titans would finish with the 2-0 win, the match was even in the box score. The Titans held a slight edge in shots at 11-10. The 'Dons finished with a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, including five in the second half.
The Titans scored in the 12th minute off a free kick. Samory Powder was the goal scorer thanks to a feed from Ryan Halloran.
Keith Larson earned a good look in the 27th minute after finding himself in space, but Detroit Mercy goalkeeper Jonathan Kliewer took a quick step to his left to get his hands on the shot.
Vukasin Bulatovic nearly knotted the match in the 51st minute. His header off a free kick clanged off the left post.
It stayed a 1-0 game until the 61st minute when Powder scored again. His shot bested Mastodon goalkeeper Erik Josson who dove to his left but couldn't get his hand on the shot.
Purdue Fort Wayne earned multiple chances to cut into the deficit but each time Detroit Mercy was up to the challenge. This includes a Detroit Mercy team save in the 79th minute that was just inches away from going into the net.
Detroit Mercy improves to 3-4-4 (2-2-2 Horizon). The Mastodons fall to 3-8-1 (1-5-0 Horizon). The 'Dons return to action on Saturday (Oct. 16) at UIC. It will be an 8 p.m. ET start from the Windy City.
