IUPUI Takes Horizon League Match From Purdue Fort Wayne

INDIANAPOLIS - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fell to IUPUI 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 27-25) on Friday night (Oct. 15) in the IUPUI Gymnasium.
In the opening set, the 'Dons built up a 21-17 lead after a 4-0 run that was capped off by a kill from Madelyn Wurster. IUPUI rattled off an 8-1 run to close the set.
The second set was made up of significant run after significant run. The 'Dons had a 5-0 stretch with three straight kills from Katie Crowe, Sidney Schiller and Ramei Jackson. IUPUI took a 7-1 run to get a set point chance. The 'Dons held off three of them, thanks in part to an ace from Alexandra Traciak. The Jaguars got a block to take a 2-0 lead, after Maggie Castleman solo blocked the third set point opportunity.
Purdue Fort Wayne looked its best in the third set, which saw the Mastodons got on a 13-3 run. Wurster capped off this run with a pair of aces. The 'Dons had a .286 hitting percentage, which was the highest of the night.
In set four, the 'Dons used a late run to establish a set point opportunity. Castleman had back-to-back aces in this stretch. The Jaguars won the match with an ace that clipped the net to fall into the middle of the court.
Crowe had a team-high 13 kills, and Rachael Crucis had a match-high 15 digs.
IUPUI improves to 3-18, 1-9 Horizon League while the Mastodons fall to 5-18, 3-7. Purdue Fort Wayne has six days off before its next match: a Thursday, October 21 contest at Milwaukee.
