Whitinger, Thompson Set Second And Third Fastest 8K Time In Program History

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes Andrew Whitinger and Draven Thompson ran the second and third fastest 8K times in program history on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Live In Lou Classic.
Whitinger finished Saturday's race with a 25:18.3 8K, and Thompson finished with a 25:29.9 8K, good for 18th and 32nd place. The two surpassed Hunter Paris' time of 25:30 from 2007. The current program record was set by Logan Kitchen back in 2017 with a time of 25:16.
Following behind Thompson was JT Hodges in 34th with a time of 25:33.6, Husam Saleh in 53rd with a time of 25:53.4, Nathan Mills in 54th with a time of 25:53.7, Nicholas Mills in 70th with a time of 25:58.4, and Kehinde Oladapo in 120th with a time of 26:26.5. Heading into Saturday's race, the men's team did not have a runner with a sub 26-minute 8K. Five runners ran an 8K under 26 minutes on Saturday.
As a team, the Mastodons finished second overall out of 62 teams with 174 points in the blue race, behind Grand Valley State. They out-ran Horizon League opponent Wright State and Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green.
On Friday, Oct. 1, a group of runners competed in the Huntington Invitational in Huntington, Ind. Kobe Milledge led the 'Dons in 12th place with a time of 27:40.0. Behind Milledge was Weston Miser in 19th with a time of 28:18.7, Noah Wright in 31st with a time of 29:14.5, and Bryce Taylor in 48th place with a time of 31:43.3.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 16 to compete in the Evansville Invitational hosted by Evansville University. This will be the final race before the Horizon League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Carmel, Ind.
