Notre Dame Pulls Away in Second Half to Down ‘Dons

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team trailed by just one goal at the half before falling at Notre Dame 4-0 on Tuesday (Oct. 5) evening.

The Mastodons went to halftime holding advantages in shots (5-4), shots on goal (2-1) and corner kicks (1-0).

However Notre Dame held a lead on the scoreboard with the only goal of the first half coming four minutes in by Jack Lynn.

Luke Benford had the best chance of the half for the 'Dons when his shot from about 10 feet out skipped by the left post by just a few feet in the 27^th minute.

Notre Dame scored in the 47^th minute on a goal by Daniel Russo, assisted by Paddy Burns and Ben Giacobello. Mohamed Omar scored in the 70^th minute, assisted by Dawson McCartney. The final Notre Dame goal came in the 79^th minute when Philip Quinton scored, assisted by Reese Mayer and Ethan O'Brien.

Notre Dame finished with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal in the game.

Benford had a team-high two shots for the 'Dons and a shot on goal. Keith Larson also had a shot on goal for the 'Dons.

Notre Dame improves to 6-4-1. The 'Dons fall to 3-6-1. Purdue Fort Wayne is back in action on Saturday (Oct. 9) when league-foe Wright State comes to town.
