Wright State Takes League Game From Mastodons
10/9/2021 9:45:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team dropped a home match against Wright State 4-0 on Saturday (Oct. 9) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Wright State took a 2-0 lead by the 14th minute thanks to a pair of similar goals. Both were set up by shots by Reece Allbaugh. His shots were saved both times but the deflection set up Joe Kouadio in the 13th minute for a goal and Conner Osterholt in the 14th minute for a score.
The Mastodons had the majority of chances in the second half, out-shooting the Raiders 8-6 in the period and holding a 6-0 edge in corner kicks in the frame. But Wright State made the most of their opportunities. Zion Beaton scored from just a few yards out in the 72nd minute and then Harvey Slade tallied a goal in the 77th minute off a penalty kick.
The 'Dons tied a season high with 17 shots.
Luke Benford and Keith Larson each had a team-high three shots for the 'Dons. Larson had a header off a nice cross from Ryan Gray in the first few minutes that went just high. Logan Lee nearly made it a one-goal game nine minutes into the second half but his shot was deflected by a leaping one handed save.
Wright State's Sebastian Jimenez earned the shutout for the Raiders. He helped his team improve to 4-5-1 (3-2-1 Horizon). The 'Dons fall to 3-7-1 (1-4-0 Horizon). The 'Dons welcome Detroit Mercy to town on Wednesday (Oct. 13) evening for a Horizon League match.
