Riley Ott Leads All Scorers at No. 22/23 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Riley Ott of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team led all scorers in the Mastodons' 78-41 loss at No. 22/23 Notre Dame on Sunday (Dec. 12).
Ott, whose hometown of La Porte is 26 minutes from Notre Dame's campus, scored 21 points against the Fighting Irish, just one shy of her career-high.
Purdue Fort Wayne held relatively close with the national power Fighting Irish until the third quarter, when Notre Dame closed the period on an 8-0 run. To open the third, the Mastodons got two triples from Amellia Bormenschenkel. This put the Mastodons within nine.
Purdue Fort Wayne was at its best in the second quarter, never letting Notre Dame score more than four consecutive points. The 'Dons were 6-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the 3-point line. Ott scored eight and Aubrey Stupp got five.
To open the game, the Mastodons jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Irish thanks a triple from Stupp and a layup from Ott. This was one of the Mastodons' seven 3-pointers; they finished shooting 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The 'Dons were 4-of-8 in the first half.
A 22-6 fourth quarter ballooned the Notre Dame lead to its final line. Notre Dame had six players in double-figures, with three at 12 each. The 'Dons held the Fighting Irish to just three 3-pointers, their lowest of the season. This included a loss at No. 2 UConn.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 4-6 and Notre Dame improves to 9-2. The Mastodons return home for their next game on Monday, December 20, when they welcome Indiana State.
