Know Your Foe
Northern Kentucky is 4-2 so far this season and split its opening weekend of Horizon League play 1-1. The Norse beat Green Bay 61-52 and fell to Milwaukee 61-49. Prior to welcoming the Mastodons, the Norse will play Cleveland State on Friday (Dec. 3). NKU is led by 18.7 points per game from Lindsey Duvall. Ivy Turner is the reigning Horizon League Player of the Week after scoring 45 combined points against Miami (OH) and Central Arkansas.
The Series
Northern Kentucky has a 31-8 advantage over the Mastodons in the all-time series history, but the two schools have only played four times since NKU became Division I. Prior to that, the two competed against each other in the GLVC. The 'Dons' last win came in 2014, a 65-59 win.
What's Up Today?
Purdue Fort Wayne has a chance to move to 4-0 in Horizon League play on Sunday. The Mastodons are seeking their first 4-0 start in League play since the 2009-10.
Norse Reunited
Mastodon graduate assistant coach Jazmyne Geist spent four years at Northern Kentucky as a player. She scored 270 points and started in 29 games before sitting for the better part of two years with an injury. She had a career-high 14 points against Detroit Mercy her freshman season and matched it against Cleveland State her sophomore season.
Clean Hoops
The Mastodons have committed the second-fewest fouls in the Horizon League and seventh-fewest in the country this season, committing 68.
Shooters Shoot
Purdue Fort Wayne has the second-best shooting percentage in the Horizon League, recording a 44.4 clip from the floor. The Mastodons also have the second-best 3-point shooting percentage in the League at 38.5 percent. This is 21st in the country. Last season, the 'Dons were last in the league in both categories.
In a League of Their Own
Purdue Fort Wayne has three of the top 13 scorers in the Horizon League: Sylare Starks (15.0 ppg), Ryin Ott (12.8 ppg) and Shayla Sellers (12.2 ppg). Purdue Fort Wayne is the only team in the League to have three scorers in the top 13.
She's a Freshman. Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap
Ryin Ott has the third-best field goal percentage in the League this season, shooting 51.9 percent from the floor. She is also averaging 12.8 points per game. If this average continues through the season, it will be the best scoring average for a freshman in the program's Division I history.
Pretty Good From The Line
Aubrey Stupp has the best free throw percentage in the Horizon League with at least 2.5 made free throws per game. Stupp is 13-for-14 for 92.9 percent, which is the 12th-best in the nation.
Sharp-Shooting Sylare
Sylare Starks is shooting 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from 3-point range this season, which is the third-best in the Horizon League and 25th in the country. Once she reaches the season minimum of 30 makes, this would qualify as the best in program history.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne dropped a non-league game at Ball State on Thursday (Dec. 2) 86-58. Sylare Starks, Ryin Ott and Aubrey Stupp all reached double-figures.
Coming Up
Purdue Fort Wayne will step out of league play one last time, visiting Southeast Missouri (Dec. 9), No. 24 Notre Dame (Dec. 12) and hosting Indiana State (Dec. 20).
