Know Your Foe
Southeast Missouri is 3-6 this season, but has just one win over a Division I opponent this year: an 82-76 win over Mississippi Valley State. The Redhawks are coming off a 95-57 win over Harris-Stowe State, a Division II foe in St. Louis. Roshala Scott and Deanay Watson are leading SEMO, as they are both averaging double-digits. Watson is shooting 62.7 percent from the floor.
The Series
SEMO leads the all-time series over the Mastodons 2-1, but the two schools have only played once in the last 18 seasons. The Mastodons last win came in 2003, a 90-87 overtime game. In 2019, Riley Ott was the fourth-leading scorer with eight points in a 58-48 loss.
What's Up Today?
Purdue Fort Wayne has a chance to even the all-time series against Southeast Missouri at two wins apiece. The Mastodons would also move to 5-4, picking up their second non-league win.
Clean Hoops
The Mastodons have committed the second-fewest fouls in the Horizon League and 12th-fewest in the country this season, committing 89.
Shooters Shoot
Purdue Fort Wayne has the second-best shooting percentage in the Horizon League, recording a 43.6 percent clip from the floor. The Mastodons also have the second-best 3-point shooting percentage in the League at 37.8 percent. This is 23rd in the country. The 37.8 percent rate would rank in the top five in program history. Last season, the 'Dons were last in the league in both shooting percentage categories.
In a League of Their Own
Purdue Fort Wayne has three of the top 11 scorers in the Horizon League: Sylare Starks (15.2 ppg), Shayla Sellers (12.2 ppg) and Ryin Ott (12.0). Purdue Fort Wayne is the only team in the League to have three scorers in the top 11.
She's a Freshman. Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap
Ryin Ott has the third-best field goal percentage in the League this season, shooting 50.8 percent from the floor. She is also averaging 12.0 points per game. If this average continues through the season, it will be the best scoring average for a freshman in the program's Division I history, topping Jordan Zuppe's 11.2 average in 2007-08.
Pretty Good From the Line
Purdue Fort Wayne is third in the Horizon League and 53rd in the country in free throw percentage. The 'Dons are making 76.0 percent from the line, which ranks in the top 10 in program history for a season mark.
Sharp-Shooting Sylare
Sylare Starks is shooting 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from 3-point range this season, which is the fourth-best in the Horizon League and 29th in the country. Once she reaches the season minimum of 30 makes, this would qualify as the best in program history, topping Trish Fleming's 46.1 percent in 2000-01.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to Northern Kentucky 69-60 despite Riley Ott scoring a season-high 17 points. Sylare Starks added 16 points with four 3-pointers.
Coming Up
The Mastodons have two more non-league games before returning to Horizon League play for good: a road game at No. 22 Notre Dame (Dec. 12) and a home game with Indiana State (Dec. 20). League play starts on December 30.
