Baseball Wins Game One Over Murray State 10-6

MURRAY, Ky. – The 2021 baseball season got underway on Friday (Feb. 26) for the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons with a split at Murray State. The Mastodons won game one 10-6 and lost the second game 9-5.
Game One – Mastodons 10, Racers 6
The 'Dons never trailed in the contest and opened a 6-0 lead after four innings.
Justin Greene, in his first game as a Mastodon, went 4-for-5 with two runs nocked in. Alex Evenson and Ryan Robison also had two RBIs.
The 'Dons opened the scoring in the second inning when Trenton Stoner walked and came around on an Evenson double. The next inning Evenson had another RBI on a single that scored Garett Lake. Greene and Jack Lang each had an RBI in the third inning to make the score 6-0.
The 'Dons kept scoring as Justin Miller put up zeros. Miller threw 4.1 innings giving up just one hit and one run with four strikeouts. He received the victory.
The Mastodons led 7-1 after five and a half innings but Murray State made it closer by making it a 7-6 game entering the ninth. Purdue Fort Wayne put the game away with three runs in the ninth. The big hit was a two-run single from Robison.
Game Two – Racers 9, Mastodons 5
The 'Dons tied the score at one with a single run in the second inning. Evenson reached on an error and scored on a Robison sacrifice fly. Murray State countered with three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth in the game scheduled for seven innings.
Purdue Fort Wayne's Lucas Kolovitz hit his first career home run in the seventh and made it one to remember on a no doubt grand slam to right field.
Cameron Boyd took the loss for the 'Dons after allowing four runs in four innings. Sean Ferguson and Alex Holt each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Jack Wenninger got the win for Murray State after throwing 5.0 innings. Jordan Cozart had a pair of doubles and a home run for the Racers.
The 'Dons are 1-1 and the Racers are 2-3. They will play a doubleheader again on Saturday.
