Youngstown State Pulls Away From Purdue Fort Wayne 3-0

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Purdue Fort Wayne dropped a 3-0 decision to Youngstown State on Saturday (March 6) in Horizon League baseball play.
Both starting pitchers in the contest were on point. Mastodon starter Cameron Boyd threw 7.0 innings and recorded a career-high nine strikeouts. He took the loss and is now 0-2 after giving up a pair of two-out runs in the sixth and a home run in the seventh. Boyd earned 12 consecutive outs until a Penguin walk to start the sixth.
Boyd was out dueled by Youngstown State starter Collin Floyd who earned a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks.
The Mastodons had three hits in the game with Garett Lake, Trenton Stoner and Jack Lang each recording singles. The 'Dons stranded a runner in the first, fourth and sixth innings. The sixth inning was the Mastodons' best chance to score when they put two runners on with one out but failed to get them home.
Jeff Whaler and Phillip Glasser each had two-out RBIs for the Penguins in the sixth. Steven D'eusanio hit a home run to center in the seventh to make the final 3-0.
Youngstown State moves to 4-6 (2-0 Horizon). The 'Dons fall to 1-5 (0-2 Horizon). The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday (March 7) to close out the series. Spectators are not allowed for the games at Defiance High School.
