WSOC Celebrates Senior Day with Matchup Against IUPUI

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team will return to the Hefner Soccer Complex for their final Horizon League match on Monday (April 5) against IUPUI. Monday's match will begin at 4 p.m. after the men's soccer game at 1 p.m. against Wright State. The final home match will serve as senior day where Cesiley LaCourt, Eliese LaCourt, Lorah Pund and Emily Gunsett will be recognized.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons return to the Hefner Soccer Complex after a 1-1 tie against Oakland at the Grizz Dome on Tuesday (March 30). The 'Dons got a result against an Oakland team that has the second most points in the Horizon League. Oakland entered the contest on a four-game win streak. Oakland's Alexa Sabbagh scored for the Golden Grizzlies at the 33rd minute after passes by Hollie Clement and Sami Lopez. Oakland rested on the 1-0 lead the remainder of the first half. It stayed a 1-0 game until 64:24 when Mackenzie Evans scored her first collegiate goal after a corner kick by Rylee Vruggink. Cesiley LaCourt took the pass from Vruggink and sent the ball to Evans where the sophomore found the back of the net two yards outside the goal box. The first overtime featured little offense, with the Golden Grizzlies and 'Dons each recording one shot on goal. The second overtime saw Purdue Fort Wayne control the majority of the play with the 'Dons taking all four shots in the period. The final attempt came with less than 15 seconds left when Emily Gunsett's shot was saved to make the final 1-1.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI comes to Purdue Fort Wayne with a 4-1-2 record after falling to Northern Kentucky 1-0. NKU netted the day's only score after a corner kick in the 60th minute for the winner. IUPUI out-shot NKU 14-11 and put six attempts on-frame. Mimi Stines had six stops for the Norse while Meyer led all players with four shots. IUPUI leads the conference in goals allowed with two and goals against average (0.38). The Jaguars have recorded five shutouts during the season.
LAST TIME
The last time the 'Dons and Jaguars met was on October 15, 2017. The Jaguars earned the victory 2-1 after Krissy Kirkhoff scored for the Jaguars in the second half, knocking in a shot from 15 yards out in minute 62. IUPUI controlled the first 20 minutes of the match, and got the first goal in minute 24 from Krissy Kirkhoff. Just 47 seconds later, Jessica Schoenfeldt knocked in a shot from eight yards out. Emma Gaggioli snagged a career-high 13 saves in goal.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
The 'Dons will play their third outdoor match of the season on Monday. So far, Purdue Fort Wayne has played five matches indoors and two outdoors. The Mastodons had two consecutive home matches outdoors at Zollner Stadium and Hefner Field #2.
LEADERS
Rylee Vruggink and Kailyn Wade each lead the team with three goals. Vruggink also has three assists to lead the team with nine points while Gabrielle Fanning contributes two. Lorah Pund has started all eight games in goal for the 'Dons. She has 38 saves on the season. She had a season high nine saves against Cleveland State on February 25.
THAT'S A BIG ROSTER!
This year's roster of 27 is the program's largest roster in program history. The 2020-21 roster has 11 freshmen, nine sophomores, two juniors and five seniors.
