KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer picked up a positive result on Wednesday (Sept. 15) evening at Western Michigan with a 1-1 tie following two scoreless overtimes.
The Mastodons tied the match at one with a goal in the 55th minute thanks to a converted penalty kick by Keith Larson. It stands as his second goal of the season.
It tied the match after Western Michigan's Dylan Sing scored in the 30th minute to put the Broncos up 1-0. Caden Jackman and Brennan Creek assisted on the play.
The 'Dons appeared for a moment to tie it just before half but a goal was waived off after a foul was called in the box.
Purdue Fort Wayne controlled much of the possession in the second half, recording eight corner kicks in the second period. The pressure helped earn the penalty kick opportunity.
In extra time Western Michigan held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks and a 3-1 advantage in shots, but the Mastodons' Luke Benford recorded the only shot on goal in the extra 20 minutes.
Adam Hunt played the first half in goal, making one save. Danny Salazar went the rest of the way allowing no goals and making two saves in 65 minutes.
It is the third positive result in four games for the 'Dons.
The Mastodons are now 2-3-1. Western Michigan is 2-2-2. Purdue Fort Wayne returns to Horizon League action on Saturday (Sept. 18) when the Norse of Northern Kentucky comes to Fort Wayne.
