Women's Soccer Falls To Iowa 5-0 In Non-League Match

IOWA CITY, Iowa. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team dropped a non-league match at defending Big Ten Tournament Champion Iowa 5-0 on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Iowa City, Iowa.
The loss snaps a four-game unbeaten streak for the Mastodons. Their record drops to 1-1-3 on the season.
Iowa (4-1-0) got out to the quick start with two goals from Alyssa Walker in the game's first 11 minutes. The first goal was scored at the third minute and was assisted by Courtney Powell and the second goal was scored at the 11th minute and was assisted by Hailey Rydberg. Kenzie Roling would score a third goal in the first half at the 30th minute with the assist from Riley Whitaker. In the second half, Samantha Cary would score a goal at the 48th minute and Rydberg scored a tally in the 54th minute.
Alexandra Ibarra and Kelsey Gallagher would get shots for the Mastodons. Ibarra's shot was saved at the 85th minute by Hawkeye's goalkeeper Monica Wilhelm.
Samantha Castaneda grabbed a career-high 12 saves in the loss.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 5 (1 p.m.) for a non-league game against Ball State in Muncie, Ind. at the Briner Sports Complex. Ball State is 1-2 and lost to Cincinnati 2-1 on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
