Mastodons Fall 3-1 Against Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team dropped a non-league match to Ball State 3-1 on Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Briner Sports Complex.
With the loss, the Mastodons fall to 1-2-3 on the season.
Ball State's Avery Fenchel scored the game's opening goal in the 36th minute of the first half. In the second half, after a handball by a Ball State defender, Zoe Greenhalge would tie the game up at 1-1 at the 48th minute off a penalty kick. Greenhalge kicked the ball to the lower right part of the net, past the Ball State goalkeeper Alex DeRuvo. The Cardinals would quickly respond with a goal from Chelcy Ralph with an assist from Maya Mills at the 59th minute, and Nicky Potts would score a penalty kick goal at the 80th minute to put the Mastodons out of reach.
Greenhalge would lead the team in shots with two, including one shot on goal. Samantha Castaneda started the game in goal. She would record 10 saves on the day and allowed three goals.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 10 (2 p.m.) against Chicago State in Chicago, Ill. It will be the final game of a four game road trip, and the final non-league game for the Mastodons. They will open Horizon League play on Thursday, Sept. 16 (7 p.m.) against UIC.
