ROCHESTER, Mich. – Brooke Neal earned All-Horizon League First Team honors as she helped the Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country squad to a fifth place finish on Saturday (Oct. 29) at the Horizon League Championships.
It is the Mastodons' best finish on the women's side since taking second at the 2008 Summit League meet. While the 'Dons had multiple fifth places in the Summit League after 2008, the Horizon League field features four more teams than most of the seasons in the Summit League with fifth place performances.
Neal ran a time of 22:09.0 in the 6K race to take sixth and earn all-league for the first time in her career. Madison King took 19th (22:44.4). The next three Mastodons were all freshmen. Riley Tate (23:04.7) was 25th, Ava Genovese (23:42.0) earned 39th and Lydia Carrell (24:09.6) finished 46th.
Mercedes Sarver finished in 49th, stopping the clock in 24:21.9. Kathy Potter (24:38.6) followed in 54th. Emma Collison (26:50.9) and Hailey Whiteleather (27:55.7) rounded out the Mastodons' lineup.
Milwaukee won first place. The 'Dons put together a score of 135.
The Mastodons' fifth place is four spots better than their ninth place last year.
The 'Dons are back in action on Nov. 11 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
