Burke Pitz Shoots 3-Under on Last Day of Tom Tontimonia Invitational

WESTLAKE, Ohio - Burke Pitz of the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team shot a career-best 3-under 68 in the final round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Tuesday (Oct. 4).
Pitz finished Cleveland State's event in a tie for 34th place with a 79-75-68-222. His final round was bogey-free, with birdies coming on the opening 381-yard hole, the 447-yard eighth, and the 421-yard 13th. It was his sixth round under par in his career, and the first time he ever shot 68.
From the No. 5 spot, Hunter Mefford was the best player for the Mastodons this week. He shot 71-74-73-218 to take 20th place. His 218 is the best 54-hole score of his career. He shot 73 on Tuesday, turning in a birdie on hole three to pair with 14 pars.
Jadden Ousley shot 71-77-72-220 to earn 26th place. He started his day with three pars and a birdie, then got two more birdies on nine and 17. His even back nine featured seven pars. Kasey Lilly was four shots back of Ousley, shooting 74-73-79-226. He had four pars to open the round, then found a birdie on the 158-yard 16th.
Nick Holder carded 76-76-79-231 and took 60th place. He got a birdie putt to fall on the 402-yard seventh hole and got pars on eight holes. Reece Compton competed as an individual this week, turning in 78-73-80-231 to tie with Holder.
Purdue Fort Wayne's team score of 882 was good for seventh place. The Mastodons beat Horizon League foes Youngstown State (885), IUPUI (886), Green Bay (886) and Cleveland State (894). Oakland won the event with a score of 863. Dayton's Henry May was the individual medalist with a 210.
The Mastodons will play in their final event of the fall season in two weeks at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational on October 17-18 in Killen, Alabama.
