Purdue Fort Wayne Secures Result at Wright State to Stay Unbeaten in League

DAYTON, Ohio - A goal in the eighth minute was enough to give the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team a 1-1 result at Wright State on Sunday (Oct. 9).
With Sunday's results, Purdue Fort Wayne is in a tie for first place in the Horizon League with Wright State and Detroit Mercy with 12 points each. The Raiders and Titans have both played one more game than the Mastodons. The 'Dons are the only unbeaten team left in Horizon League play.
Morgan Reitano scored her first goal of the season just 7:10 into the contest. She sent in a feed from Rylee Vruggink just moments after Zoe Greenhalge took a shot on goal.
The goal stood as the only difference between the two teams until minute 89, when Wright State scored off a corner kick. Katie McGuiness scored off a double-assist from Kaylee Pham and Michelle Rings.
Samantha Castaneda recorded 10 saves in Sunday's contest, which marks a season-high. This included a save in the 31st minute on a shot that came from just six yards out. She controlled it while falling backwards into the net, keeping the ball just outside the plane of the frame. Castaneda still owns the best save percentage in the league.
Gabrielle Fanning, Isabelle Wissel and Tia Johnson were all alongside Castaneda for 90 minutes in the defensive third.
Purdue Fort Wayne had 10 shots with seven on target. Wright State finished with 24 shots and 11 on-goal.
The Mastodons move to 7-2-5 (3-0-3 Horizon League). Wright State goes to 6-5-3 (3-1-3 Horizon). Purdue Fort Wayne will look to continue its best season in program history on Thursday (Oct. 13), when the Mastodons travel to Youngstown State for a 7 p.m. match on ESPN+.
