Mastodons Kick Off Conference Play With a Pair of Home Matches

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play kicks off this weekend as the Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team is set to host two matches on the Arnie Ball Court at the Gates Sports Center.
The first match is on Friday, Feb. 11 (8 p.m.) against Lindenwood. The second match is on Saturday, Feb. 12 (3 p.m.) against Quincy.

Know Your Foe
Heading into this weekend's match, the 'Dons own an 11-8 record against Lindenwood and a 50-8 record against Quincy. Over the last eight matches, the 'Dons are 6-2 against Lindenwood. The 'Dons also won the first 17 matches against Quincy.
The Lions are off to a 2-3 start for the 2022 season. Their two wins came against Central State and Maryville in three sets. The Lions have yet to compete in a match longer than three sets. Phil Swartz leads the Lions in kills (31) and kills per set (2.07). He also hits .250 percent. Connor Sheehan and Brian Schwob have split time at setter. Sheehan leads the Lions in assists (89) and assists per set (8.09) while Schwob has 45 kills and 7.50 kills per set.
The Hawks come into the weekend with a 3-3 record, which includes wins over William Penn, Saint Xavier, and Saint Ambrose (Iowa). The Hawks open MIVA play against Loyola Chicago on Thursday, Feb. 10. Nathan Lawton leads the Hawks in total kills (73), kills per set (3.32) and hits .368 percent. Bryce Jones has been the main setter for the Hawks this season. He leads the Hawks in total assists (183) and assists per set (8.32).
Homecoming
This weekend, Purdue Fort Wayne will celebrate homecoming. Both days consist of doubleheaders at the Gates Sports Center. Friday's doubleheader starts off with a women's basketball game against Robert Morris (5 p.m.) followed by the men's volleyball game against Lindenwood. Following the men's volleyball game against Quincy, the men's basketball team takes on UIC at 7 p.m.
Hey, That's Good
This past weekend against Sacred Heart and Harvard, Rico Wardlow had 19 kills in 28 attempts and had a .607 hitting percentage. Wardlow also had 10 kills in 11 attempts (.909 hitting percentage) against Harvard. The .909 hitting percentage is ranked in the top 15 in the NCAA between 10-14 attempts.
