ST. LOUIS - Junior Cade Fitzpatrick went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, but the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons fell on Thursday (March 10), to the Saint Louis Billikens 5-2.
Freshman Bryce Martens started and took the loss on the mound for Purdue Fort Wayne to drop his record to 0-3. He allowed three solo home runs in 4.2 innings. Kyle Maurer was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.
Offensively, the Mastodons were led by Fitzpatrick, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Freshman Karter Hann went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Mastodons were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when Fitzpatrick grounded out to score Ben Higgins.
It was a 4-1 game in the seventh when the 'Dons put together their best offensive threat of the game. Fitzpatrick started it with a one-out triple. Hann then singled to score Fitzpatrick. Dylan Stewart followed with a walk and the 'Dons had the tying runs on base. However two strikeouts followed and the runners were stranded.
