Jack Lang Homers Twice as 'Dons Dim The Beacons 11-3

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Jack Lang hit two home runs to help lead the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons over the Valparaiso Beacons 11-3 in non-league baseball action on Tuesday (March 29).
JD Deany (1-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Purdue Fort Wayne. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits. He allowed no walks and fanned six. Kyle Mauer, Brendan Reid and Braxton Wilson combined to allow no runs and no hits over the final 3.2 innings.
Lang went 4-for-5 at the plate, finishing with five RBIs and four runs. Ben Higgins went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Senior Garett Lake also helped out for the Mastodons, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
The Mastodons got the scoring started early, putting three on in the top of the first. Lake's run-scoring single was the big hit in the inning.
The Beacons failed to push any runs across before the Mastodons offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Purdue Fort Wayne scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lang, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Mastodons.
Valparaiso narrowed Purdue Fort Wayne's lead to 4-2 before the Mastodons stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the fourth inning. The Mastodons notched three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run homer from Higgins.
Purdue Fort Wayne kept the Beacons scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. The Mastodons drove in a run on Lang's leadoff dinger, bringing the Mastodon advantage to 8-2.
Valparaiso got within 8-3 until the eighth when Lang hit a three-run home run. It scored Peyton Williams and Jarrett Bickel.
