Mastodons Return Home With Series Win

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Mastodon pitching recorded 12 strikeouts and no walks to help Purdue Fort Wayne to a 10-5 victory at Northern Kentucky on Saturday (April 16) afternoon. The win gave the 'Dons a road series win for a second weekend in a row.
It is the first time the 'Dons have recorded 12 punchouts with no walks in game since April 18, 2008 against North Dakota State.
Purdue Fort Wayne pitching totaled 35 strikeouts in the three-game series at Northern Kentucky.
Jacob Myer was mowing them down to start the game, striking out eight Northern Kentucky hitters over 4.2 innings of work.
Brian Skelton (2-0) threw 2.2 innings out of the pen, giving up one run on one hit, with no walks and three strikeouts. He earned the win.
Jarrett Bickel led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 2-for-6 in the game with a double, a home run and three RBI. Ben Higgins put the 'Dons up for good with a two-run home run in the first inning. He also had two walks. Isaiah Hart also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Purdue Fort Wayne with a triple, a walk and two RBI.
Purdue Fort Wayne took a 5-0 lead in the third with a pair of runs. Garett Lake's run-scoring single highlighted the inning.
The Norse gained ground, closing the gap to 5-1 until the 'Dons added some insurance in the fourth. The three-run frame for the Mastodons was punctuated by a two-run triple from Hart that just missed going over the wall. It brought the score to 8-1 in favor of Purdue Fort Wayne.
Northern Kentucky got within 8-4 until the Mastodons scored again in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 10-4. This time it was a Bickel two-run home run.
