Walden Breaks Men's Hammer Throw Record for Second Time This Season

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – For the second time this outdoor season, Purdue Fort Wayne's Asher Walden broke the program record in the men's hammer throw at the Gibson Invitational on Friday, April 22.
Walden's throw of 52.71 meters topped his previous record of 50.02 meters he set back on March 12. He finished fifth overall in the event.
The Mastodons are in second place out of eight teams with 29 points. DePaul leads with 38 points.
Other top finishers included Kai Auernheimer (50.86 meters) and Logan Alexander (36.81 meters) They were first and fourth in the javelin throw. Zyler Johnson took seventh in the hammer throw (48.58 meters).
Draven Thompson (15:25.10), JT Hodges (15:51.00), Husam Saleh (16:01.53), Noah Wright (16:08.72) and Andrew Whitinger (16:41.73) finished third, 10th, 12th, 15th, and 21st in the men's 5,000 meter run.
Day two of the Gibson Invitational begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the 100-meter prelims.
