
Three Mastodons Earn Horizon League Baseball Honors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A trio of Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons were honored on Tuesday (May 24) by the Horizon League baseball head coaches. Graduate student third baseman Jack Lang and junior catcher Cade Fitzpatrick were named to the 2022 All-Horizon League Second Team. Freshman pitcher Rex Stills was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Lang (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) led the Mastodons in on-base percentage (.402), runs (45), hits (57), total bases (102), walks (27) and stolen bases (12). He tied for the team-lead in home runs with 10. Lang had 17 multi-hit games. He started 48 games at the hot corner.
Fitzpatrick (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central High School / Ball State) hit a team-best .321. He was at his best in league play, ranking second in triples (3), third in slugging percentage (.645) and 10th in batting average (.355) in the league. He threw out 10 would be base stealers in league play, second best in the Horizon League.
Stills (Valparaiso, Ind. / Wheeler High School) compiled a 2.90 ERA over 40.1 innings pitched on the season. He recorded 34 strikeouts. Stills had nine outings in 2022 with no earned runs allowed.
They helped the 'Dons reach the league tournament for the first time since 2016. The Mastodons will open the 2022 Horizon League Championship on Wednesday (May 25) in a noon start against Youngstown State.
