INDIANAPOLIS - Shaina Eyre, Alise Hale and Jadelyn Johnson have been named to the 2022 Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team, the league announced on Friday (May 6).
This is the first time that the Mastodons have had three student-athletes earn Academic All-League honors in the same season since moving Division I in 2001.
To be eligible for the Horizon League All-Academic Team, student-athletes must participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests, complete one year at the member school and pass 24 credit hours at that institution. Eligible candidates must have completed one academic year prior to the start of their athletic season. Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.
Eyre owns a 4.00 GPA in her organizational leadership graduate program. She worked for a 3.42 GPA for her bachelor's degree in psychology, which she earned last season. Eyre is a three-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll honoree and an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete. She was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week in 2021, and in her final year with the Mastodons ranks 10th in the Horizon League in strikeouts and wins.
Hale is the owner of a 3.80 GPA, and will earn a degree in biology next week. She is a two-time Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete and was Horizon League Player of the Week earlier this season. This is Hale's second Academic All-League selection. She is the first Mastodon to earn Academic All-League honors twice since Ashleigh Bousquet and Larissa Franklin both earned Summit League Academic All-League nods in 2013 and 2014.
Johnson has a perfect 4.00 GPA in her psychology program and will also graduate next week. Like Eyre and Hale, Johnson was an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, both last year with the Mastodons, and in 2019 when she was with South Dakota State. Earlier this season she threw a complete game shutout against Detroit Mercy.
