The first two shots of the season went for goals for the Mastodons. In the sixth minute, Cesar Cosio turned his first shot as a Mastodon into a goal. The Western Illinois transfer's strike in the box deflected off a Lipscomb defender and just inside the right post. It made the score 1-1. Keith Larson assisted on the score.
Larson tied the game at two with a goal for the 'Dons in the 29th minute. He moved to his right to earn some space about 16 yards out to finish with a score.
Lipscomb was up 3-2 at halftime with goals in the 3rd, 15th and 44th minutes. Lipscomb added goals in the 60th and 72nd minutes by Jelldrik Dallman. Lipscomb's last goal came in the final four minutes of the contest.
Lipscomb is 1-0, Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 0-1.
The 'Dons will stay in the Music City the next few days before returning to the pitch on Sunday at new Missouri Valley member Belmont.
