NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie at Belmont on Sunday (Aug. 28) afternoon.
It was a scoreless match until 58th minute when the Mastodons found the back of the net. Moses Akimana scored the goal, assisted by Cesar Cosio. Both Akimana and Cosio finish the weekend with three points each.
The Bruins knotted it in the 79th minute. Case Cox had the goal. Michael Saunders assisted. It stayed 1-1 until the final buzzer.
The 'Dons finished the game with a 6-5 edge in shots on goal and a 5-2 advantage in corners.
The tie comes against a Belmont team that went 13-5-1 last season in the SoCon. This is their first season in the Missouri Valley.
Belmont is now 1-0-1. The 'Dons are 0-1-1.
Purdue Fort Wayne has their home opener set for Friday (Sept. 2) against Western Illinois. Kick at Hefner is 3 p.m.
