Purdue Fort Wayne Women's Golf Breaks 36-Hole Record

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team set a new program record with a 595 36-hole score on the opening day of the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational. The Mastodons' 595 on Monday (Oct. 2) broke the previous record set in 2022 by one stroke.
In the play-six, take-four format, the 'Dons finished the first day of the event in a tie for fourth of the 11 teams from the Horizon League and Mid-American Conference. Of league foes, the 'Dons are ahead of Detroit Mercy (647), Cleveland State (608) and defending league champion Green Bay (606). Only reigning runner-up Oakland (579) was better than the Mastodons on day one. They are tied with Eastern Michigan through 36 holes.
With 18 holes to play, Anna Olafsdottir is tied for ninth as the Mastodons' top player. She started her day by rattling off eight pars in a row before birdieing hole four. She added birdies on eight, 10 and 11 to pave the way for an even round of 72. In the afternoon round, she had two holes over par in her first three, but then was even the rest of the way. She birdied hole 10 and was even on the front with nine pars. She was 3-over with her 72-75-147.
A pair of freshmen 'Dons are tied for 11th. Olivia Jang (75-73) and Hunar Mittal (78-70) both shot 148. Jang started her morning round with five pars and two birdies on the first seven holes. She added another birdie on hole 10, the 485-yard par-5. In round two, she had just two bogeys, both on the back nine. She had nine pars on the front to go with six on the back. Jang birdied 10 on her second time through as well. Mittal had a 78 in round one with 10 pars and a birdie on hole seven, then recorded a top-10 score in program history in round two. She had just one bogey in the round on hole seven, but mitigated the damage with birdies on holes two, 10 and 11. She had pars on every other hole for the 2-under effort.
Adrienne Rohwedder had her score taken in the morning round, shooting 77-78-155. She had a birdie on 18, which was her second hole before getting seven pars in the next eight holes. When she returned to the back nine, she birdied 10 and her finishing hole of 16, both par-5s. In round two, she had four pars to start, then had a pair of birdies on the back nine when she got back. She is tied for 34th.
Natalie Papa shot 81-75-156 to tie for 40th. She had her second round taken for the team score. In the morning, she started with a birdie on hole 16, a 488-yard par-5. She had nine pars in the rest of the round. In round two, she had a strong finish, turning in three birdies over her last seven holes. This included a birdie on her finishing hole.
Lillie Cone also competed for the team score, shooting 84-82-166. She had a birdie on hole one in her first time through the course and finished the day with 17 pars.
The final round of the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational will tee off on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at 9 a.m.
