Mahlmeister Scores Fifth Goal in Loss to Oakland

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Hefner Soccer Complex on Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon.
Seth Mahlmeister scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Mastodons a 1-0 advantage. He capitalized on an Oakland foul in the box and converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute.
With five matches to play, Mahlmeister has the most goals in a season for Purdue Fort Wayne since Alex Frank's five goals in 2019.
Mikey Ketterman tied the score just a few minutes later with a 30th minute goal. Ketterman struck again in the second half with a 61st minute penalty kick that gave Oakland the lead.
Mahlmeister had two shots on goal, and James Maxwell had a late chance when he put a shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but was turned away from netting a late equalizer.
Danny Salazar stopped four shots in goal while his counterpart, Michael Sly Jr., had two saves.
The Mastodons fall to 5-4-1 and 3-2 in Horizon League play. Oakland improves to 4-5-2 and is also now 3-2 in conference play. Purdue Fort Wayne travels to UAB on Wednesday (Oct. 11) for an 8 PM kick.
