Bromenschenkel Scores 16 in Loss to No. 5 Iowa

ESTERO, Fla. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team fell to No. 5 Iowa 98-59 on Friday night (Nov. 24) in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
The 'Dons made nine three-pointers in the game with six in the first half. The 'Dons were 6-of-14 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. For the contest, Audra Emmerson and Amellia Bromenschenkel each had two triples, while Shayla Sellers, Destinee Marshall, Renna Schwieterman, Ryin Ott, and Klea Kaci each had one.
Bromenschenkel led the way for the Mastodons with 16 points and six rebounds. She was 6-of-11 from the floor. Bromenschenkel's 16 points ties the second-most that a player has scored against the Hawkeyes this season. Freshman Erin Woodson also finished in double-figures with 12 points and four rebounds. Woodson also was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne was perfect from the free throw line shooting 10-of-10. This is the 11th time in program history the 'Dons have been perfect from the line with at least 10 attempts.
Early three-pointers from Bromenschenkel and Sellers helped the 'Dons jump out to a 6-5 lead to start the game. Iowa had a 22-point run in the fourth quarter, but the 'Dons finished the game with a 7-0 run in the final 2:15. Kaci made a pull up jumper and a 3-pointer, while Woodson added a transition layup.
Iowa was led by Caitlin Clark who had 29 points, eight assists and three rebounds. The Mastodons forced the 2023 AP Player of the Year into five turnovers, which was her most since the NCAA championship game a year ago.
The Mastodons fall to 2-2. Iowa improves to 5-1. The 'Dons will face Delaware at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 25).
