
3-Point Barrage Tarnishes Golden Grizzlies, ‘Dons Win 84-66

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The 3-ball continues to be a strength for Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball. The Mastodons got 14 triples to fall in their 84-66 win over Oakland on the road on Thursday (Nov. 30).
Through seven games, the Mastodons are shooting 42.5 percent from 3-point range, a mark good for sixth in the nation.
Ryin Ott had the best game of her career on Thursday, scoring a career-high 21 points behind a career-best five 3-pointers.
Audra Emmerson had her second game in a row on triple-double watch. She finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Five 'Dons finished in double-figures: Ott (21), Emmerson (16), Amellia Bromenschenkel (14), Destinee Marshall (10) and Renna Schwieterman (10).
It was the third quarter where the Mastodons were at their best. The Mastodons out-scored the Golden Grizzlies 23-12 thanks to hitting six of their eight 3-pointers. Emmerson had 10 of her 16, including triples to bookend the period. This opened up a 14-point lead that the Mastodons were able to hold for the duration.
The Mastodons jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the opening minutes, which saw the 'Dons hit three 3-pointers before the first media timeout. Oakland out-scored the Mastodons 23-11 over the next 10 minutes before Ott sparked a 7-0 run. Ott scored four points with a layup and a pair of free throws.
Bromenschenkel finished with nine rebounds, just one board short of a double-double. Shayla Sellers had six points, five assists and three boards. Sydney Graber chipped in six points and four rebounds.
The Mastodons held 2023 Horizon League Freshman of the Year Brooke Quarles-Daniels without a field goal for the first 38 minutes of the game. She was 0-for-12 before making her first bucket with less than two minutes to go. Oakland got the bulk of its scoring from Markyia McCormick, who netted 26.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 5-2 and 1-0 in the Horizon League. Oakland falls to 3-3, 0-1. The Mastodons will welcome Wright State to the Gates Sports Center on Sunday (Dec. 3) for a 2 p.m. start.
