Know Your Foe
Bellarmine is 2-4 to start 2023-24, but is coming off its two wins. The Knights beat Evansville 64-58 and Wofford 61-59. Bellarmine has not played a home game yet this year, so the matchup with the 'Dons will be the first. The Knights' four losses have come to San Jose State, No. 4 UCLA, No. 19 Louisville and Murray State. Hayley Harrison is averaging a team-best 13.2 points per game.
The Series
Bellarmine is leading the all-time series 26-8, but the Mastodons lead the Division I series 1-0. The win came last season, which the 'Dons took 73-62 behind 26 points from Amellia Bromenschenkel.
Welcome to the Club!
Shayla Sellers became the 21st Mastodon to join the 1,000 point club on December 3. She is the first Mastodon player since De'Jour Young (2015-19) to reach the milestone.
Schwieter Than Candy
Renna Schwieterman was selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Week on December 4. She led the Mastodons to a 2-0 week with wins at Oakland and against Wright State. She averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from 3-point range.
NET Positive
In the first release of the NET rankings, Purdue Fort Wayne was No. 80, the highest in program history. Of Horizon League schools, only Green Bay (27) was higher. Purdue Fort Wayne was the only Horizon League school to have both their men's and women's teams in the top-100.
What a Start!
Purdue Fort Wayne's 6-2 start is the best through eight games in the Division I era of the program. With a win, 7-2 would also be the best start through nine games in the DI era. The Mastodons' most wins with two losses was 1995-96, when they started 18-2. They finished 23-5 in the best season in program history.
Defense Done Wright
Purdue Fort Wayne held Wright State to 60 points on December 3, which was the Raiders' second-fewest this season. It was second only to a 99-55 loss at Michigan State. The 'Dons held the Raiders to 1-for-17 from the 3-point line in the final three quarters, resulting in just 36 points in the final 30 minutes.
#3Nation
Purdue Fort Wayne hit 14 or more 3-pointers twice this season (Western Kentucky and Oakland). This is the first time since 2014 that the Mastodons have had two games with 14 or more triples in a season and the first time ever that the 'Dons have done it in back-to-back games.
We Love Threes...
Purdue Fort Wayne has been dangerous from 3-point land this season. The Mastodons are seventh in the country with a 40.7 3-point percentage and sixth in the nation with 9.9 3-point makes per contest. Audra Emmerson and Renna Schwieterman are in the top-200 nationally in 3-pointers per game and Emmerson ranks in the top-70 in 3-point percentage at 40.0 percent.
... and It's Been a While Since We Haven't
The Mastodons love making threes so much, they haven't had a game without a 3-pointer made since January 1, 2021, a streak of 87 games. This includes every game in the Maria Marchesano era.
Some More on the 3-Ball
The Mastodons have seven players shooting at least 40 percent from the 3-point line. Lauryn Stover is 1-of-2 (50 percent), Amellia Bromenschenkel is 11-of-24 (45.8 percent), Ryin Ott is 11-for-24 (45.8 percent), Renna Schwieterman is 15-of-33 (45.5 percent), Destinee Marshall is 7-of-16 (43.8 percent), Shayla Sellers is 12-of-28 (42.9 percent), and Audra Emmerson is 20-for-50 (40 percent).
Post Up Syd!
Sydney Graber is shooting 73.1 percent from the floor this season. If she had enough attempts, this mark would be the fourth-best in the nation.
Chasing 1,000
Amellia Bromenschenkel is looking to become the next 1,000 point scorer in Mastodon history. She has 740 in her career. With her average of 14.1 points per game this season, she is on pace to reach 1,000 career points in 18 games.
Magic Numbers 70 and 80
Under head coach Maria Marchesano, the Mastodons are 19-4 when they score 70 points or more and 10-1 when they hit 80.

Over the last two games, Ryin Ott is averaging 16.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 62.5 percent from the floor (10-of-16) and 70 percent from 3-point range (7-of-10). She had a career-high 21 points at Oakland on November 30 with a 6-for-7 effort from 3-point range.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne beat Wright State 71-60 on Sunday (Dec. 3) behind 14 points and six rebounds from Horizon League Freshman of the Week Renna Schwieterman. Ryin Ott pitched in 12 points off the bench.
