Sonia Solis Records Two Hits vs. No. 13/11 Virginia Tech

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Sonia Solis recorded two hits in Purdue Fort Wayne's last game of the UNCW Home Weekend #1, but the Mastodons fell to No. 13/11 Virginia Tech 9-0 in five innings.
Solis was 2-for-2, getting a single up the middle in the second inning and a single through the left side in the fourth. She was in scoring position in the second after a fielding error, but was stranded there.
The Hokies scored the game-winning run in the first inning, then expanded their lead with a five-run third. This included a pair of homers.
Freshman Alanah Jones threw all five innings from the circle. She struck out two Hokies but moved to 0-2. Kelsey Brown got the win with 3.0 innings pitched for VT to go to 1-0.
Grace Hollopeter, Taryn Jenkins and Jones had a hit each.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 0-5 and Virginia Tech improves to 5-0. The Mastodons will be back in action next weekend (Feb. 17-19) at the Bob Heck Classic at Georgia State.
