St. Thomas Takes Non-League Contest From Mastodon SB

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - St. Thomas beat Purdue Fort Wayne softball 5-1 in the final game of the 2023 Aces Home Tournament on Sunday (Feb. 26).
The Tommies got the scoring started in the third inning with a squeeze bunt. They did the same again in the fourth, then opened up a 4-0 lead with a two-run home run in the fifth.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh. Grace Hollopeter got on with a single, then advanced to third after Brooke Wintlend put the ball in play. Sonia Solis singled to left field and scored Hollopeter.
Five Mastodons had a hit in the game.
Alanah Jones continued her hot stretch from the circle, but took the loss to fall to 3-5. She had nine strikeouts in the 26 batters she faced. She gave up four runs, just two earned. Alyson Quinlan pitched the final inning in relief and recorded one K.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 4-12 and St. Thomas improves to 6-9. The Mastodons are back in action next week in Bloomington, Indiana, where they will play Green Bay, Indiana and Wisconsin in the Hoosier Classic.
