Holder and Pitz Shoot Career-Best Rounds at NKU Jewell Invitational

BATAVIA, Ohio - Purdue Fort Wayne sophomore Nick Holder shot a career-best 67 in the second round of the NKU Jewell Invitational on Monday (April 10).
The Mastodons shot 296-282-578 and occupy sixth place. Their second round of 282 is the second-best mark of the season and ties for ninth-best in program history. Holder's 67 also ties the best round by a Mastodon this season.
Holder had seven pars on Monday, two in round one and five in round two. His 4-under 67 in the afternoon featured birdies on holes three, six, 10 and 16, then hole one for his penultimate hole. The back nine of his second round was bogey-free. He had just one bogey in round two. Holder's 76-77-143 ties him with teammates Kasey Lilly and Jadden Ousley for 14th.
Lilly's 68-75-143 featured a bogey-free opening round. He started his day with eight pars in a row then a birdie on nine. Four more pars prefaced a birdie, par, par, birdie, par finish. In round two, he started with another birdie. He turned in six pars in a row before his second bogey of the day.
Burke Pitz is tied for 20th after two rounds with a 76-68-144 performance. Back-to-back birdies on six and seven highlighted his first round. This came before he birdied 15 later on. In the afternoon, Pitz was 5-under through 13 holes with five birdies and eight pars. His 68 tied the best of his career.
Five shots back, Hunter Mefford is in a tie for 42nd place with a round to play. In the morning round, he had birdies on hole five and 14. In the second round, he dropped in three more birdies for a cleaner 73. He finished at 76-73-149.
Reece Compton was just one shot behind Mefford after two rounds with a 76-74-150 to possess 48th place. He birdied holes three and 10 in the morning round, then repeated with a birdie on three in round two. He also added a birdie on 16. His second round also saw him par six in a row from six to 11.
Ousley competed as an individual, shooting 72-71-143. He had one of only four eagles in the field, which came in round one on the 517-yard third hole. This came after he birdied 14 and 18 before making the turn back around to the front. In round two, he had birdies on holes one, two and 15, with a bogey-free stretch of 10 holes in round two.
Northern Kentucky leads the pack with 287-277-564. The Mastodons are 31 shots ahead of Horizon League school Detroit Mercy and within six shots of three others.
The final round of the NKU Jewell Invitational will shotgun on Tuesday morning (April 11).
