Colonials Take Horizon League Series From Mastodons

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball dropped a Horizon League game to Robert Morris 7-2 on Saturday (April 15).
The home team scored all seven of its runs before the Mastodons got on the scoreboard in the seventh. RMU started its scoring in the second with a sac fly, then scored four in the fourth behind two doubles and two singles. The Colonials put their last two on the board in the seventh with one hit.
The 'Dons scored both their runs in the seventh. Bailey Manos tripled to right center to get the hitting started. Taryn Jenkins got her second hit of the day with a single down the left field line to score Manos. After Jenkins stole second, Taylor Warne singled to left to bring Jenkins home from second. This was all the damage the Mastodons could do.
The Mastodons out-hit the Colonials 8-7.
RMU's Madison DeVault got the win with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. Gracie Brinkerhoff took the loss to fall to 6-5.
Robert Morris improves to 18-18, 8-5 Horizon League. The Mastodons fall to 16-22 and 8-6 in the Horizon League. Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action on Wednesday (April 19) when Eastern Illinois comes to the Summit City for a midweek doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
