Mastodon WBB Reaches 10 Wins With Victory Over Robert Morris

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball hit 10 3-pointers against Robert Morris on Thursday (Jan. 4) to lift the Mastodons to a 68-56 victory.
Thursday's win was the 10th of the season for the 'Dons, which marks the fastest the team has reached double-digit wins since the 2010-11 season. The 'Dons were also 10-5 to start that year.
The 'Dons shot 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from 3-point range. It's the eighth game this season the Mastodons have hit double-digit 3-pointers. Six different Mastodons had at least one triple, and Destinee Marshall led the team with three. Shayla Sellers and Audra Emmerson each hit two.
While Marshall was the clear player of the game with 15 points, six assists, four steals and three rebounds, Jazzlyn Linbo had her best game since returning from injury. She finished with 12 points on five shots and six rebounds. She was 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Purdue Fort Wayne started out hot with four triples in the first quarter and an overall shooting percentage of 56.3. The 'Dons locked down on defense in the second quarter with five steals and held Robert Morris to just six points.
The Mastodons shot 66.7 percent from range in the third quarter and saw their lead swell to 23 points after opening the second half on a 14-5 run. A 3-pointer from Marshall put the 'Dons ahead 49-26 with 6:26 left in the period.
The Mastodons finished the game with 13 steals in their sixth double-digit steal performance of the season. They scored 26 points off of RMU's 21 turnovers.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished at 41.5 percent from the field (22-of-53), 41.7 percent from 3-point range (10-of-24) and 14-of-18 for 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
Marshall led all scorers with 15 points while Linbo (12), Sellers (11), and Amellia Bromenschenkel (10) joined her in double figures.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 10-5 and 4-1 in the Horizon League. Robert Morris falls to 6-8, 2-3. The Mastodons travel to Detroit for an afternoon with Detroit Mercy on Sunday (Jan. 7).
