FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons tied an NCAA record with zero turnovers in a 103-52 win over Defiance on Friday (Dec. 20) evening.
Per Sports Reference, the other three times a team recorded zero turnovers: Louisiana Tech (at Saint Louis, Dec. 16, 2023), Wisconsin (vs. Iowa, Jan. 20, 2015) and Fairfield (at Marist, Feb. 12, 2009). Sports Reference's single-game stats go back to 2004-05.
The 'Dons forced 25 Defiance turnovers on Friday. It is the fifth game in the Sports Reference database with a team earning a +25 turnover margin in a game.
Corey Hadnot II led six Mastodons in double-digits. Hadnot had 17 on 7-of-11 shooting. Chris Morgan recorded a career-high 16 points thanks to four 3-pointers with six steals. Trey Lewis added 13 points while Maximus Nelson and Eric Mulder both had 12. Jalen Jackson reached double-figures at 11.
Morgan's stat line doesn't tell his whole night. He had a steal falling out of bounds and whipped a pass like a quarterback to Hadnot down the court for an easy basket. Then to close the half Morgan earned a block on the defensive end, gathered the ball, raced just beyond the mid court line and drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
10 different Mastodons recorded two or more field goals in the game.
Purdue Fort Wayne shot 52.6 percent (40-of-76). Defiance finished at 46.0 percent (23-of-50). Carter Sudhoff led the Yellow Jackets with eight points.
The 'Dons improve to 9-4. Purdue Fort Wayne is at No. 24 Michigan on Sunday (Dec. 22).
