Queens Wins MIVA Match in Five Sets Against 'Dons

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball dropped a MIVA match on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10) to Queens in five sets (25-23, 23-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-12).

The Mastodons led 11-5 in the fifth set before the Royals went on a 7-1 run to close the match.

Queens took the opening set despite the Mastodons going on a 5-0 run to tie it up at 18. QUC earned four points in the final five to jump out to a one-set lead. The 'Dons had a 5-1 run in set two to go up 21-19. Later on, Mark Frazier had two kills and an ace to even up the match.

The third set saw the Mastodons go up 16-10 after Frazier served through a 5-0 run. The junior capped off the run with another ace. Queens and Purdue Fort Wayne traded points for the majority of the remainder of the set to give the 'Dons a 2-1 lead.

Purdue Fort Wayne nearly came all the way back from down 24-17 in set four as Raul Papaleo Jr. served in a 6-0 run.

Frazier finished with a match-high 22 kills on a .425 hitting percentage. Jon Diedrich pitched in 17 kills while Bryce Walker added 14 kills on a .600 clip. Frazier and Diedrich had double-doubles with 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Andrej Polomac had 52 assists.

Queens was led by 11 kills from Jack Brinkman.

Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 7-5, 1-2 MIVA. The Royals improve to 6-7, 2-2 MIVA. The Mastodons are back in action on Thursday (Feb. 15) when they visit No. 11 Ball State.
