
Bromenschenkel Hits 1,000 Points, 'Dons Clinch Home Quarterfinal Game for #HLWBB Championship

INDIANAPOLIS - Amellia Bromenschenkel joined the 1,000-point club and Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball clinched a home quarterfinal game for the Barbasol Horizon League Basketball Championship after a 68-55 win over IUPUI on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 24).
With two games left, the Mastodons have guaranteed a top-four finish in the league, their best since the 2013-14 season.
Bromenschenkel scored her 1,000th point on her first basket of the day, which came at the 8:46 mark in the second quarter. She is the 22nd Mastodon to reach the 1,000-point mark, joining teammate Shayla Sellers in the elite list of Mastodons.
The difference in the game came early on. After IUPUI went up 4-0, the Mastodons rattled off 13 in a row. From there, the Mastodons never trailed again.
The Mastodons ballooned their lead to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter thanks to a 20-11 third frame. Bromenschenkel had three baskets on three consecutive possessions in the early portion of the fourth quarter to reach that 18-point lead.
Bromenschenkel finished with a team-high 17 and added six rebounds. Sellers finished with 15 points and eight boards. Audra Emmerson pitched in 14 points, six of which came in the 13-0 run in the first quarter.
The Mastodons forced IUPUI into 22 turnovers which led to 18 points. The 'Dons won the rebounding battle 38-31.
The Jaguars got 21 points out of their best player, Katie Davidson.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 19-10, 12-6 in the Horizon League. IUPUI falls to 6-21, 4-14 in league. The Mastodons will return home for a game against Green Bay on Wednesday (Feb. 28) at 7 p.m.
